In 1760, he married Maria Anna Keller, and their marriage resulted in neither a pleasant, peaceful home nor any children. Haydn revised Tobia for an Austrian performance in 1784, adding choral numbers and trimming some of the extended da capo sections. Haydn wrote the Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross, one of his most famous works. During the early 1780s, he published six Opus 33 quartets. In 1775, he composed theorizing piece Il ritorno di Tobia, which is regarded as one of his most ambitious works. His audience has grown dramatically in recent years as he speaks outside his employer’s courtroom. Despite the destruction of the Esterh*zy opera house by fire in 1779, Haydn’s opera output remained strong until 1785. Haydn matured as a composer from 1766 to about 1774, during the most recent period of his work. Haydn provided his patron with over 150 compositions that featured Beethoven. He made significant contributions to the prince’s musical ensembles in addition to raising their quality and size. Haydn began working as musical director at the Esterhzy court in Vienna in 1756. He was then hired as an assistant conductor by Prince P*l Antal Esterh*zy. He was engaged in 1758 as musical director and chamber composer for Ferdinand Maximilian von Morzin, Count of the Bohemians. When Haydn was 15 years old, he was under the direction of Italian composer and singing teacher Nicola Porpora. Haydn left home at the age of 17 to pursue a variety of musical jobs to make ends meet. He assisted in the creation of the string quartet’s and symphony’s forms and styles. Haydn was regarded as one of the most influential figures in the development of Classical music in the 18th century. In all, Haydn composed over 100 symphonies, 80 string quartets, 20 piano sonatas, as well as numerous other works for ensembles and solo instruments. Still others were purely instrumental, such as his string quartets and piano sonatas. Others were more general in nature, such as his “London” symphonies, which were composed for the English capital. Many of his compositions were for specific occasions or purposes, such as his six “Paris” symphonies, which were written for a French audience. Haydn composed numerous musical works throughout his lifetime.
